The Role of the Police Chief's Executive Assistant

Are you a newly appointed police chief's executive assistant interested in finding out how to best support your chief or have you spent years supporting your chief and are looking for ways to become more efficient? Then this course is essential. Developed with extensive input from police chiefs and their executive assistants from small to large agencies, the content of the course is packed with important information that will make you a more effective assistant.
This course is WHERE you need to be to find out:
- WHAT your role is as the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police and his/her expectations of you.
- WHAT administrative skills, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential to be an effective chief's assistant.
- HOW to anticipate and assess issues and problems that can and will occur upon taking the position.
- WHEN to delegate calls and interviews and learn deadline priorities.
Topics covered in this seminar will include:
- Understanding the differences in roles based on the size of the department.
- Expectations of the chief of police. What do chiefs expect from their executive assistant?
- Your role in keeping the department running smoothly and your chief on course.
- Tools you can use to improve your role as the "gatekeeper."
- Legal issues surrounding personnel files.
- Keeping informed on current issues and dealing with the media.
- Time Management for both you and the Chief.
- Learning from your peers and building successful relationships.
The course will be presented in a lecture and panel format. There will be two panels covering the various expectations portions of the program, one of police chiefs and a panel of peers to share their thoughts. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with several experienced police chief's assistants.
