The Role of the Chief's Executive Assistant
Presented by the California Police Chiefs Association

Topics covered in this seminar will include:

  • Expectations of the chief of police. What do chiefs expect from their executive assistant?
  • Understanding the differences in roles based on the size of the department.
  • Your role in keeping the department running smoothly and your chief on course.
  • Tools you can use to increase your value and improve your job performance.
  • Legal issues surrounding personnel files.
  • Time Management for both you and the Chief.
  • Learning from your peers and building successful relationships.

The course will be presented in a blended, group dynamics, lecture and panel format. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions from a panel of current police chiefs and to interact and build relationships with their peers. This course is designed not only for current Chief's Executive Assistants, but also for those who fill in during their absence, as well as those who are on the path to becoming an executive assistant in the future. In an effort to "go green," the class content and handouts will be provided on a USB data stick. Please bring a windows-compatible laptop which accepts USB data sticks. If you have no access to a laptop computer, please let us know and we will assist you.

Course Instruction:
Folsom Police Chief Sam L. Spiegel facilitates and helps instruct the course. Christine Campbell, Livermore PD, and Yolanda Garcia, Chula Vista PD, bring more than 30 years of shared expertise as tenured executive assistants and Attorney Greg Palmer of Jones and Mayer offers guidance on personnel files and legal issues. There will also be a live panel of sitting police chiefs to be queried by the course attendees.
