RIPA Data Collection & Reporting Summit

The first RIPA Stop Data Collection Report containing data analysis from the from the first wave agencies is coming out in April 2020. How will DOJ interpret and report the data, what benchmarks will be used, and how will other stakeholders respond? What can other agencies learn from Wave 1 and 2 agencies prior to their data collection in 2021 and 2022? This summit will offer insights into DOJ’s report shortly after its release and will provide an overview of what agencies can expect when they start collecting data.

There is much to learn from agencies now collecting it:

  • Do you use DOJ’s data portal or do you use your own or another agency’s system?
  • What are the advantages or disadvantages?
  • What are the comparative benchmarks and how to interpret them?
  • How to develop proactive practices prior to reporting data?
  • How to message your data to your officers and community and what information should be highlighted?
  • How do you review the information before it is submitted to DOJ? Can you or should you? How are you, as the chief, responsible for the integrity of the data?
  • How much training is involved so that officers know how to complete the form?
  • How much time have agencies found that it takes their officers? And how does that impact their available time on patrol?
  • What are officers reactions to the new collection requirement?
  • Is your CAD system ready to manage the data?
  • What do you, as a chief or manager, need to know now, to be sure you are ready to report?
  • Are you prepared for the various ways the reported data will be interpreted?

This insightful summit will feature representatives from agencies currently reporting as well as members of the RIPA board and DOJ. Don’t be caught off guard by the upcoming reporting requirements for your department.
