Succeeding as a Police Chief: Beyond the Basics

This three-day course best serves those who are new to the Police Chief role or have already taken the Becoming a Police Chief course. Participants will explore the first six months on the job, identify department priorities, and listen to common first year challenges. Participants will also learn how to build effective command staff teams and the best practices in strategic visioning and planning. Highlights of the course will include managing the professional and personal challenges of being a Chief and contemporary issues in 21st Century policing. This course is a build-on to our Becoming a Police Chief course and designed to assist with "what's next" on the job. This course is part of CPCA's Executive Development Certificate program.

  • Six Month Plan for New Police Chiefs
  • Building Effective Teams
  • Strategic Visioning
  • Managing the Professional and Personal Challenges of Being a Chief
  • Contemporary Issues in 21st Century Policing: Where to from here?

What's Included?
Coffee will be provided each day, and there will be a hosted evening reception on the first day.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be in writing and emailed to Shannon Mahoney. Cancellations received at least 20 days prior to the beginning of the course date will receive a full refund. Cancellations received between 19 days and 10 days will be subject to a $50 administrative fee. Cancellations received less than 10 days prior to the event will not receive a refund.  Registrations are transferable, all changes must be made 10 days prior to the start of the course. NO SHOWS forfeit full registration fee. Course fees are NOT transferable after the last course date.
