CPCA Legislative Summit 2019

May 14 - 15, 2019

Hyatt Regency, Sacramento

Registration: Closed!

Who Can Attend?
Cal Chiefs Legislative Day is designed specifically for current active CA Municipal Police Chiefs and their seconds in command (if attending with their Chief).

Cal Chiefs’ 6th Annual Legislative Day is a great opportunity to come to Sacramento and directly participate in the legislative process and impact the bills and budget items we are concerned with. The day is for chiefs and seconds to be briefed on the key bills impacting our profession, pick up packets of material that include talking points and background information and then head across the street to meet with your legislators during appointments that Cal Chiefs’ has scheduled for you. The impact of California’s police chiefs, in uniform, in the halls of Sacramento, is an impressive one, and your relationship with your elected official is critical to our success in ensuring that our legislative priorities are met.

With all of the legislative crises we are facing, coupled with our push to ensure that the $20 million the Governor provided for city police departments in the budget, to be used for dealing with homelessness, the mentally ill and at-risk youth, it will be especially important for you to attend our Cal Chiefs’ legislative day May 16th in Sacramento.

Q: Why would I attend; I already have a great relationship with my legislator and can call them at any time?

Legislative Day is not only a perfect opportunity for you to meet with your legislator but have you ever heard of the phrase “there is success in numbers”? In previous years while attendees were at the Capitol meeting with members, key bills have been heard allowing members to participate in opposition and support. This is a truly unique opportunity for attendees to be present at the hearings and stop bad legislation from moving forward.

Q: What exactly do we do while there?

If you choose to come in the evening before, we invite you to join us for a welcome reception from 5:30pm-6:30pm. This is great opportunity to network with other chiefs from different districts as well as a chance to informally chat with legislators. The next morning, we kick off the event with a review of key legislative priorities that effect law enforcement, tips for speaking to members and a Capitol update. Shortly after we will take our iconic law enforcement photo on the West steps of the Capitol.  From there you will head to your scheduled meetings with either your district Senator or Assemblymember (or both of you choose).

Q: Who can attend?

Both Chiefs and Seconds in Command can attend together (Seconds must attend with Chief).

Q: What does this cost?

The cost to attend is $150 and includes a hosted reception, breakfast and lunch as well as program materials and legislative schedulingYou can register by clicking here, and if you are interested in staying the evening before you can book directly with Hyatt Regency Sacramento by clicking here.
