The California Police Chiefs Association is excited to offer an exclusive Executive Leadership Certification for all policing executives, regardless of CPCA membership status. Previously known as the Executive Development Certificate Program, the Executive Leadership Certification Program (ELCP) is industry hallmark in premiere executive training. The program features a trio of top-notch contemporary courses that will help shape your executive future and provide you with important tools to successfully steward your organization.  

This three-course series is well-suited for police executives of any tenure, including newly appointed chiefs, executives who aspire to become the head of a policing agency, and tenured police chiefs and executives who want to achieve or continue success in policing governance.  It is also a fit for management-level police leaders who want to learn ways to better support their chief executive.

By completing all three courses of the program within three years, you will earn one of the policing industry’s most prestigious executive certifications —issued by California Police Chiefs Association. These courses do not have to be completed in any specific order.

    A four-day course in which participants will learn about executive recruiting and seating processes, changing agency culture, managing crises, navigating legal and legislative demands, the police role in city or county government, and thought-provoking aspects of influential executive leadership in today’s policing profession.

  • (Previously known as Succeeding as a Police Chief)

    A four-day course in which participants will learn and discuss approaches, pitfalls, and considerations inherent to common successes and failures of contemporary police executive leadership. The course focuses on several critical areas, including how to propel an organizational vision, shape agency culture, navigate controversy, and deliver on the demands of a community.

  • A one-day course to help participants develop and implement agency plans to address the demands and expectations of technology, transparency, and public expectations for high levels of customer service. The course also focuses on how to examine staff development, retention, recruitment, and training needs for the individual agency.

Executive Leadership Certification Program (ELCP)

Recipients of the Executive Leadership Certificate must complete all required courses within a 3 year period.* After completing all courses, simply apply for your certificate by completing the form below.

Please note that although these three courses are considered a package, they must be registered for separately; we do not offer a package deal for all three courses due to the completion timeline being three years.

*Courses taken prior to the launch of the program in 2018 may not be eligible to count towards the certification
