Professional Bio
Acting Chief Joshua Johnson began his law enforcement career in 2004 with the Selma Police Department after graduating from the College of the Sequoias Police Academy. Over fourteen years with Selma PD, he served as a patrol officer, motor officer, field training officer, and detective specializing in sex crimes. His leadership journey began as an Acting Sergeant, sparking his passion for developing others.
In 2018, Acting Chief Johnson joined the Sanger Police Department as a Sergeant, later promoting to Lieutenant and eventually Commander, where he served as second in command. He led both Operations and Support Services Divisions, focusing on innovative training methods, community outreach, and department-wide improvements. In February 2025, he was appointed Acting Chief of Police.
Known for his inclusive, people-first leadership style, Acting Chief Johnson prioritizes accountability, mentorship, and developing the next generation of leaders. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and was accepted into the FBI National Academy, set to begin in June 2025.
